071 - The Wave in Coyote Buttes (Print)

Most photographers who have hiked all the way out to the Coyote Buttes to photograph The Wave try to keep its location a secret. This red and white striped fantasy of petrified sand dunes is unique. Sitting on the high desert at an elevation of 5,000 feet, this place is as wild and remote as any in the Southwest. You'll need a permit, a map, and directions to find this place. There are no signs or marked trails. It's a strenuous journey but the photography is incredible! Issue #71 gives you assistance on obtaining a permit, has a map showing four routes into The Wave, and provides you with all the detailed information you will need on when to travel, how to find the place, what camera gear, film, and filters to carry plus necessities like water, food, compass, etc. This is my favorite photo location in the Southwest.
